Larry Smith , Minister of Pastoral Care/ Recreation
Larry Smith was born in Washington DC on May 4, 1946. He married Joyce Parker on September 27, 1969 and they have 4 children, Hunter, Jeff, Megan, and Bradley. Larry holds a Master of Divinity from Southern Baptist Seminary (1975) and a Bachelor of Science (1968) from Carson-Newman College. He was ordained into the ministry in December 1974. He currently is the Minister of Recreation & Pastoral Care at Highview Baptist Church. He was the Activities Associate at Walnut Street Baptist Church from 1973-1978, as well as the Associate Pastor at Hunsinger Lane Baptist Church from 1971-1973. Larry taught at Morningside Elementary School from 1968-1971.
Larry loves people and recreational activities. He spends much of his free time in activities such as golf, basketball, softball, bridge, and playing with his grandchildren.
Larry grew up in a Christian home and when he was 12 became aware of his sinfulness and separation from God. In May of 1958, Larry invited Jesus into his life as his personal Lord and Savior. At 23, he surrendered his life completely to Jesus and responded to His calling on his life. This led to his seminary training and his ministry experiences in several churches. For the last 30 years he has been blessed to serve as Minister of Recreation and Pastoral Care at Highview Baptist Church. He believes he has the greatest calling to the “greatest job” in the world!
