Marbara Stivers, Bookstore/Library Director
Marbara Stivers is the manager of the Growing Strong Resource Center and Media Library Director.
She met her husband Jordan while serving as youth teachers at Highview. They have two children: Andrew and Emily.
The former Bullitt County teacher earned a B.A. from Campbellsville College and a M.A.T. from University of Louisville in K-8 elementary education.
Marbara was one of the pioneers of homeschooling. And it's from the home in which she was raised that Marbara began a relationship with Jesus Christ. “I was raised in a Christian home, surrounded by Christian parents and grandparents. Seeing God as my Father, Creator and Savior was a natural outgrowth of my early life and I recognized my need for Christ at age seven. I was the last person baptized at my first church, Baptist Temple, before it moved from downtown Louisville. I spent the rest of my youth at Shively Heights Baptist Church in Shively, KY, involved in G.A.s, VBS, Sunday School, choir, Training Union, youth camps, etc. I was there until I graduated from U of L and our family moved to Okolona. After visiting several area churches, we found our home at Highview Baptist Church in 1979. I have served as a teacher for 10th and 7th grade girls, as a small group leader in women’s Bible studies, and as the church librarian. Our family also participates in a family mission trip each year – four years at Lend-A-Hand and five years at Lynch, KY, both in the Eastern Kentucky mountains.
I used to think that my testimony was sort of “boring” – nothing like the interesting stories I heard as a child. But I realized some time ago that sin is sin, no matter the degree, and that my life can be a testimony of not only God’s saving power, but also of His keeping power! I am so thankful for the life God has given me, the people and places He has allowed me to know and for directing me to my current place of service. Everything He has let me experience to this point has equipped me to do the job He has given me.”
